FLOSSY

Flossy is a pure Chihuahua, nine months old, DOB 1/11/17, and has been desexed, fully immunised, and microchipped.  Flossy is a special needs little darling who craves cuddles, petting and love and so easy to love!

Her condition is known in veterinary medical terms as Cerebellar Ataxia.  Over the past few months we have seen huge improvements to her movements and body controls.  She is such a happy little darling and loves playing with another young Chihuahua or two.  She will not be suitable as an only dog, must have a playmate.

Cerebellar Ataxia is not curable and there is no medical treatment or intervention that will help her in any way whatsoever.  Anyone interested in giving this little darling a home must understand how she is and accept her the way she is.  She has a perfectly normal life expectancy provided she is fed properly and allowed to lead a normal doggy lifestyle.   

The word ataxia means without co-ordination.

Ataxia is a condition relating to a sensory dysfunction that produces loss of coordination of the limbs, head, and/or trunk. There are three clinical types of ataxia: sensory (proprioceptive), vestibular, and cerebellar.

Cerebellar means:- a large dorsally projecting part of the brain concerned especially with the coordination of muscles and the maintenance of bodily equilibrium, situated between the brain stem and the back of the cerebrum.

This condition can occur as a result of hereditary or congenital defects, or it can be the result of infections or tumors of the brain. In Flossy’s case it is believed to be hereditary.
